A joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society, iNaturalist aims to bring people closer to nature asking for members to contribute to biodiversity science, through recorded observations.
They then share findings with scientific data repositories like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility to help scientists find and use that data.
