Emotionally intelligent leadership, and why it’s crucial right now
Emotionally Intelligent Leadership is known to correlate with job satisfaction, employee performance, organisational performance and lower levels of employee burnout. Teams need leaders who can empathise with personal predicaments and inspire them towards a shared purpose, whilst rolling with the ongoing uncertainties for business.
‘Emotional intelligence’ - the skill to manage emotions and deal effectively with others- emerged in 1990, coined by John Mayer and Peter Salovey, and popularised by Daniel Goleman. Goleman, an American psychologist, defined five key areas of emotional intelligence.
