HOW IT WORKS:

Working together for your success.

At each step in the process, we work with you and your employer to ensure your success before, during and after your training. 

Step 1: Receive an Employer Nomination or Apply Online

NEW for 2024: More ways to access GROW’s FREE training!

  • Employers and managers can now nominate up to 5 employees.

    • Nominations should be made by an owner or manager who possesses the authority and intention to promote or otherwise advance the nominee upon the successful completion of their training plan. 

      • Promotion or advancement includes a pay raise, role promotion and/or expanded duties.

  • We now accept employee applications!

    • Apply online and we’ll help you discuss this FREE training opportunity with your employer.

Step 2: Confirm your commitment.

Before we begin, we work with you and your employer to build a shared understanding of what’s required from each of us throughout the process.

Employer Requirements:

Employers will be required to:

  • Collaborate with GROW Program Staff;

  • Empower their candidate to implement concepts and/or best practices introduced throughout the course of their training;

  • Offer workplace support to the nominee for the duration of the training program (i.e. offer flexible work hours, regular mentoring/coaching meetings, and feedback).

Participant Requirements:

Successful participants should be committed to:

  • Advance their knowledge, skills and abilities within the landscape and horticulture profession;

  • Complete all supplemental training courses and/or certifications specified in their individual training plan;

  • Share their progress with GROW and their employer using the GROW’s exclusive online tools.

Step 3: Register online.

Our secure online registration process confirms your program eligibility and collects the information we need to administer your training.

Employer/Manager Eligibility:

  • Possess the authority necessary within the company to support the participant’s training, evaluate their progress and approve their promotion or advancement upon the successful completion of their training plan. 


Participant Eligibility:

  • Live in Ontario;

  • Legally permitted to work in Canada;

  • Identified by their employer for a promotion or advancement after the completion of their training;

  • Accept and understand the advancement opportunity and training commitment;

  • Have regular access to a computer & reliable internet (at work or at home).

Company Eligibility:

  • Provide landscape and/or horticulture services in Ontario;

  • Be registered and licensed to operate in Ontario and in full compliance with all relevant legislation.

Step 4: Create your Custom Training Plan

Training plans are designed to advance each participant’s career with their employer. Each fully customizable training plan is funded by an individual training budget provided through the program. This means that no matter where you train and what you learn, your training plan is free.

The possibilities are virtually endless. We know this can be daunting. That’s why GROW offers a variety of training plan supports. Regardless of what you select, GROW will be available throughout your training journey to support your success.

Pre-Determined Training Plan

You and your nominee have already decided on a suitable training plan.

Select this option if you want to customize a Sector Training Package.

Build a Plan with GROW 

Our optional 30-minute goal-setting session can equip you and your nominee with the tools and information you need to create a training plan that meets your needs. 

Select this option if it's your first time using the program or you're unsure about the needs of your nominee.

Step 5: Ready, Set, GROW!

Once your plan is confirmed, GROW works with you to:

  • Define expectations such as the learning outcomes, new skills and/or certifications resulting from the successful completion of your training plan;

  • Determine how these results will affect your role within the company;

  • Maximize your individual training budget with additional opportunities to help achieve your goals;

  • Secure your training commitment and your employer’s commitment to your advancement upon the successful completion of your training plan.
